Word of the Month

This word came from my handy dandy Mac Widget, "Word of the Day." Because I can't ever remember a new word every single day, I'm making this my word of the month. I figure if I do a word of the month every month for the rest of my life, and I live another 50 years (according to national averages) then I'll know 600 more words. That's, um. . . a lot of words. But I digress.

So, the word of the month is:

Spoony
spoon·y also spoon·ey
(spn)
adj. spoon·i·er, spoon·i·est
1. Enamored in a silly or sentimental way.
2. Feebly sentimental; gushy.

I have to admit, this is not my spooniest post ever.

Photoshop is fun

I recently had to do some graphics work for a business school application (more on that this summer) and I made the following picture:
This was pretty fun to make. Compare it to the original:
I think I did a pretty good job. What do you think?

Who's got some hot chocolate?

This is the view from my living room. That's my bar-b-que. Snow is purdy.

There is, however, something all non-snow bound people should know about living in a city with snow. After the beauty has set in, and you really start to feel you are living in a winter wonderland, the city's dirt wins the battle against the snow and the white blanket of soft powder turns into a black icy sludge that persists until spring or the next snowfall. The whole snow vs. grime battle takes about two hours. It sucks.

This has been a public service announcement. Not that I'm bitter.

A blog? But why?

So I recently emailed a funny work story to my friend Matt and he replied, "get a blog, ya wino!"

I'm not sure what the wino part was for, but I figured it was so fashionable these days, I might as well share, for all the world to see, my musings on the world, for better or for worse. If I've got something to say, it's usually about music, sports, culture, cooking, business, and, quite frequently, the intersection of those and many other topics. So that's what this is. An intersection. Or something.

Muse don't fail me now.

P.S. That's my girlfriend's and my dog, Rory, saying "welcome to Joe's blog!"
